Memorial Day!

Today is Memorial Day!
I took a few minutes (which is not nearly enough!) to think about all of the soldiers serving our country as well as their families here who miss them terribly. I cannot imagine what their lives must be like...
I think sometimes we forget that all of the images we see on tv or in magazines are REAL. These people are just as real as me...they just have a different job. I just wish there was more I could do to help the soldiers and their families.
I think I will really try to come up with an idea of something that I can do to show them that we appreciate them and we really do care and think about them!

Summer Time is here...I think

Man oh man oh man! Summer time weather has FINALLY hit here in Bend! It has been a steady couple of weeks of temperatures above 70 so HOPEFULLLY we have officially gotten through with another long Winter!
I know I have said it before but Bend is for sure THE MOST lovely place to live in the Summer. It is usually about 85 degrees, crystal clear blue skies with no signs of clouds! You are happy just sitting on the porch all day not doing anything OR there are thousands of trails, lakes, rivers, mountains, etc. you can go have fun on!
I am so excited and so ready for the Summer....I just wish I could express how much I love SUMMERTIME in BEND!

Going Home!

Man oh man! This week I got a ticket to go home to see my family in Mississippi...I love going home!
I fly into Memphis and then me and Judy, Al, and Maggie will be headed to the Delta to see my moma and them!
Pretty much all of the family will be there the first weekend for the big blues fest 5k. It is usually pretty fun when we all get together for a few days. I bet we will have a cook out or something fun like that!
I can hardly wait!!
I love spending time with my moma and Melvin and Kelly...Maggie moo normally stays with us too so that makes it that much better! We don't really do too much but it is just so nice and fun to see everyone.
It is always a little hard to tell everyone bye especially my moma. We talk on the phone like 4 times a day anyway but it still hard leaving knowing I won't get to see her for a while...
Anyway, we won't think about that we will just think about all the yummy food and good times that we are about to have!!!

Feeling Alright

The weather here in Bend is so terrible....rainy and snowy and overcast. I mean, come on, it IS May afterall!

Other than the weather I am doing good. Friday night I went out with a bunch of my girl friends to celebrate Michelle's birthday. It was so much fun! We ALL wore wigs!!! Mine was HOT HOT HOT pink. We ate and drank and danced....it was nice hanging out with a bunch of fun ladies!

Saturday was the Salmon Run 5k and the Kentucky Derby and the NASCAR race. It was a busy day and night!

The Salmon Run was great...the sun came out just long enough for the race and post race activities. I felt really good during the run. I ran in about 26 minutes which is alright. I got 3rd in my age group! I think I have decided that I should wear a watch. It would help with paing I think!

Anyway, the Derby was fun even though I didn't win any money! A few of our friends were there so that always makes it fun!

We went to a new sports bar in town to watch NASCAR and the Bulls game. The bar was fun; the sports NOT SO MUCH! Kyle Bush won, Junior sucked and the Bulls lost....dayum!

So, all in all I am feeling pretty good!

glorious

Today is such a wonderful, beautiful day! It has been about 80 degrees all day which is a record temperature here in Bend!

I slept in a little bit with my Dixie dog laying on my legs under the covers. I had some hot tea and then took little girl out for a 50 minute run. I had on a sweatshirt type top and had to take it off after about 10 minutes...that is very rare for me!

The run was great. It really felt great to be out in the sunshine and warm air. I hardly even noticed when it was time to turn around.

I came over to Ellie and Ethan's later and we played outside for a while. They are so funny! Ellie had on some new sandals that had a sort of heel on them and she kept tripping a little bit but she was determined not to take them off! Ethan took the water hose and squirted himself with it! His face was priceless-happily shocked!!!

Days like today remind me to be happy more....I have so much to be thankful for!!

today today today

If you know me then you know that I freakin LOVE The Golden Girls....I tivo it and I watch at least three episodes a day! In fact, I am watching it right now!

People always say "Who is your favorite girl?". Well, I must say that all of them are. Each of them has a unique personality-There is something about each personality that I like!

They all get along so well and really care about each other....they take care of each other. I wanna be like them with my friends and family!

Me and my moma and Nanny used to watch The Golden Girls on Saturday nights all together. We also watched the Empty Nest spin-off when it came out. It was always fun just sitting all together watching the show. I don't think I really even watched the show then; I was just there with them-ALL together!

It's hard sometimes to be all together with your family especially for me since I live 3,000 miles away! Maybe I watch The Golden Girls because it makes me feel at home or maybe it is because it is really funny! Probably both.

THE PPP is OUT!

So I am a little bit disappointed...I won't be able to do the Pole Pedal Paddle this year after all! I cannpt find enough people to be on my team...actually I just lack a biker! The bike leg is 22 miles and is right before the run. I don't think I could do both legs back to back!
I was really really REALLY looking forward to doing it but I guess it just wasn't meant to be!

I have a 10k next weekend. It is the Larkspur Lollipop and should be pretty challenging...you have to run UP the butte halfway through the race! Coming from the Mississippi Delta most people know that I don't have too much experience running UP anything!!! This race will be good practice for the Dirty Half anyway...that thing has SOOOOOO many hills! (Every person I know that has done this race has gotten hurt; some needed surgery after!)

Anyway, I am bummed about the PPP but I still have a lot of fun things to look forward to this Summer!

ready for Summer!

Yesterday was such a gorgeous day but man it was sooooooo cold! The sky was so blue and there were hardly any clouds at all...but it was only about 45 degrees....

Bend doesn't really have a Spring season. It pretty much goes from Winter to Summer. It is Winter from about November to the end of May. The rest of the time is Summer!

Usually around April I start getting the itch to leave and go to a tropical island...I wanna be out wearing my flip flops and tank tops! I have been known to check out job sites in the Cayman Islands and Hawaii because I just wanna leave the cold behind. I get so used to the Winter that it is hard to imagine that it will ever be Summer!

BUT~

The Summers here are just BEAUTIFUL!!! Perfect temperature, no mosquitos, daylight until about 9:30....PERFECT!!!! By about the first of August I start wondering how in the world I could ever have wanted to leave this place??? Hiking and running and relaxing with friends...

Just thinking about it makes me wanna sit outside on my deck with the radio going sipping on a gin and tonic!

Oh Summer please hurry up and get here!

Yoga

So, I really want to take some yoga classes. I tried doing the "hot" yoga (Birkram I think is the name) and I just did not like it. I loved challenging myself to do the poses and to breathe correctly but man oh man it was just TOOOOOOO hot!
I have been looking into some "regular" yoga classes around town and they are so expensive! To spend an extra $200 bucks a month on yoga is just ridiculous!
Anyway, I was reading an article about Jenny McCarthy the other day and she says she just bought a few DVD's and does yoga in her garage. She is freakin awesome at the poses and her body looks AMAZING!
I just wonder how you know what DVD to buy (the article didn't say which ones she uses)???
I am going to look at some reviews and then decide I guess!

Dixie's Ears

I have a dog named Dixie. She is a German Short Hair Pointer and has no idea that she is, in fact, a dog! She really thinks she is human. She runs our household for sure!
She is a daddy's girl and will let everyone know that he is hers and she ain't sharing! Those two are like peas and carrots for sure...I am totally jealous of their relationship haha!

Anyway, when I get a chance to have some Dixie time I love to rub her ears. They are so soft and silky. She loves it and usually falls to sleep.
Thos cute little ears of hers remind me of the blanket that I used to carry around when I was little. It was fluffy pink with a silk band running all along the outside of it. I would bunch up the fabric between my fingers and rub it on my face. I loved the way it felt.
These blankets didn't last too long as the silk part would fall off! Well, my paw paw wouldn't let me be without a new one for long. We would head down to the Rex All drugstore and I could pick out a new one...
They came in a box, all nice and neat with a bow.

I loved those blankets and I love my Dixie girl's ears for reminding me of them!

needing motivation

I am in need of some major motivation...my gym routine is pretty much done! It is so hard to workout inside and it is way too cold to do anything outside.
So I decided to try to get a Pole Pedal Paddle team together. If you live in Oregon you know what this event is...if not google it!!
Naw, it is a race that consists of 6 legs:
Downhill Skiing
Cross Country Skiing
Biking
10k run
Kayaking
Sprint Run
You can have a team or do it all by yourself....

Anyway, it is a really big deal here in Bend! I have always wanted to do it but never felt like bugging people about it.
This year I decided that I HAVE to do it...for the MOTIVATION of course!
I am pretty close to geting a full team together and to make it even better it is gonna be ALL WOMEN!!!

I will keep you updated and hopefully stay motivated!

been A while

Boy, it has been a long time since I have been on here. There seems to be so much technology out there that I seem to forget which ones I am part of sometimes!
Let's see; there is Facebook and MySpace and Twitter and Blogspot....that's a lot of checking in!

I think I might just stick with this blog and facebook from now on. The blog is mostly for my enjoyment and Facebook lets me keep in touch with friends and family which is nice.

Anyway, I am gonna try to update more!
